DiA Session Four: End of Dungeon of the Dead Three

We finished the Dungeon of the Dead Three, and it lived up to its name.

The session kicked off with a tense exploration through the last stretch of the cult’s hideout. Things got spicy when the party ran into “Nebra,” a kindly old woman by a literal Bhaal bloodbath. The players were quite suspicions. I might even say certain. Yet all of the parties’ rolls to discover the truth about her failed. As good players should, they made some meta jokes and decided to play the rolls, taking her along. Surprise! Nebra was a Reaper of Bhaal, and when the final fight popped off, she flanked the party while the Death’s Head of Bhaal hit them head on. It was bad. Good bad. The kind of bad that has players burning every last resource. Vic was thrown healing words. The new 2024 Cure Wounds proved its strength yet again.

But they pulled through. Mortlock Vanthampur, a big meat slab of a man, earned some real love from the party this session. My ‘hulk smash’ version of him went over well. He got the final blow on the Death’s Head, then dramatically tried (and failed) to finish the corpse off five more times. MVP energy.

Fully out of resources, the players managed to avoid the dragon cult ambush (because yeah, that happens at the end), looted the hell out of the dungeon, and hit level three. Subclasses are in play now: Valor bard, wild magic barbarian, life cleric, genie warlock, gloomstalker, necromancer.

Next stop: the Low Lantern. But Tiamat’s cult isn’t done with them.

Fortunately, Ibuprofen and Tylenol kept me functional through the session.
